Treasures of Kyoto: three centuries of Rinpa creation
Treasures of Kyoto: three centuries of Rinpa creation is an interesting new exhibit set to take place at Musée Cernuschi - Musée des Arts de l'Asie de la Ville de Paris - over the winter season.
From 26/10/2018 to 27/01/2019
When the curators say treasures of Kyoto they mean some of the finest works of ancient art to come from the city’s renowned Rinpa School. The exhibition – from October 26th to January 27th – offers an insight into the school and a close examination of some extraordinary pieces.
Much of the show centres on the leader of the movement, the calligrapher Hon'ami Koetsu. Artists worked under his guidance to create beautiful, expressive works. The gallery brings together a series of these images, as well as some of the artist’s own work.
The star attraction is 'Fûjin Raijin-zu byôbu' – which translates as Wind God and Thunder God. This the first time this Japanese treasure has appeared in Europe, so art lovers won’t want to miss this opportunity
